A few days ago, volunteers from the Verviet Society for the Protection of Animals (SVPA) discovered an abandoned dog in front of their premises. The doggie was cowardly abandoned in the middle of the night by its owner. An act that is obviously potentially dangerous for the animal, but which also poses a problem for its future because the volunteers then have no information about the dog, its character or its state of health. And that does not facilitate its adoption …
“Some too cowardly, disrespectful and unscrupulous individuals prefer to ignore this passage in our offices and deliberately choose to abandon their companion without worrying about their future. How can some, consciously, looking their dog in the eye, tie it up and leave without looking back… ..? “
An abandonment filmed by the cameras
According to the volunteers, the man would have called the shelter to discuss this abandonment, without giving any follow-up. It was then that he would have finally decided to simply abandon it, without respecting the procedure.
What he probably hadn’t expected was that a surveillance camera would film the entire abandonment scene, probably allowing him to be identified and therefore prosecuted for this illegal act.
Especially since following the implementation of the new Walloon animal welfare code, the man risks 15 years in prison and up to 10 million euros in fines.
