Unfortunately, the animal’s family has a malicious neighbor …
The story of Fame begins in July 2018, when this pretty cat was adopted by a family living in a village of 200 inhabitants in Ariège, in Durfort.
Éléonore and Marc, and their daughters Floraline and Amandine, gave the first letters of their first names to build Fame’s first name, and covered their cat with love every day.
Fame is very kind to children, very affectionate, and can be approached because she is not fearful. Unfortunately, this golden character did not save her from human cruelty.
One day everything changed
One Sunday morning, Eléonore, the owner of Fame, made a discovery that would change everything.
As she stepped out onto the patio of her house, she found her pretty furball in more than critical condition, barely conscious and full of blood, with multiple wounds and her jaw severely shifted from normal.
Believing it was a fox bite, the family soon took Fame to the nearest on-call vet, which was a 40-minute drive from the house. The cat’s vital prognosis was engaged, as she had lost a lot of blood. Fame’s family was already preparing for the worst.
A brutal attack followed by a long recovery
But the next morning, Fame’s veterinarian announced the color to her family: the cat was not bitten by a fox, or any other animal for that matter!
It was a human who shot her, hitting her with a 9mm bullet that entered through her mouth, burning Fame’s palate and breaking her lower left jaw, before exiting through the jugular, burning the skin on close up. 6 cm.
Stunned, Fame’s family decides to give it all, and opt for the operation that saved the life of their beloved cat.
After strapping the rest of the lower jaw, the Fame vet used dental resin to bind the canines together and thus strengthen the jawbone while waiting for it to heal.
The whole family of Fame came together to feed their cat every 3 hours by gastric tube with a powder similar to formula milk, because the poor beast could not eat or drink by mouth.
It took almost 4 months to be able to remove the dental resin and the jawbone resists: 4 months of worry and amazement for the family of Fame, who poured all their energy and time into the recovery of the fifth family member. .
Meanwhile, everyone around Fame wondered who could possibly have taken on such a sweet and kind cat, who never hurt anyone.
A complaint filed against X
Despite the gravity of the situation, Fame’s family found it difficult to file a complaint against the perpetrator of this brutal and illegal attack.
When she went to the Le Fossat gendarmerie, Eléonore faced a gendarme who did not want to take her complaint, telling her that she had to keep her cat on a leash, because “it’s not cool when you find his car with cat paws everywhere after it has just been washed! “
Incredulous and very angry, Eléonore managed to attract the attention of another gendarme who agreed to take her complaint against X. But unfortunately, no one ever came to see the neighbors and no investigation was made.
A return to normalcy tinged with worry
Fame got her life back, but her family worried every time she went out. How do you know if the person who attacked her was not going to do it again?
After a period when Fame wore an electric collar to dissuade her from leaving the 2500m2 garden, her family, not very comfortable with this accessory that they bought with safety in mind, took it off her by crossing their fingers to that everything goes well.
After the calm, the storm
Two years after this terrible incident, the family’s worst nightmare has come true: someone shot Fame again on one of his walks.
On May 23, 2020, Marc, Eleanor’s husband, found Fame with a neck injury. The cat cannot move, cries, and has an injured foreleg as well.
Arrived at the veterinary emergency in the middle of the night, Fame was auscultated and the verdict is final: it is a bullet which entered the base of the neck near the shoulder and which lodged under the skin near the right hip. . The bullet is clearly visible on the X-ray, and allows the vet to operate on the animal whose organs have miraculously not been affected.
Even Fame’s vet couldn’t believe it: the bullet, though of an imposing caliber, did very little damage. Fame is the miracle of the veterinary clinic!
For now, it is still too early to know if Fame will be able to walk as before, as the nerve in the right foreleg has been hit by the bullet and could lead to a limp.
A new incident of little interest to local authorities
At the end of May 2020, Marc succeeded in filing a complaint against X at the gendarmerie but not without reminding a gendarme, who did not want to take his complaint, that he was obliged to do so because it is an illegal act. The gendarme then said he might open an investigation.
Indeed, on the website of the French Biodiversity Office , we can read that:
” Hunters do not have the right to shoot domestic cats, nor the right to kill them, nor the right to capture them . Killing them is a 5th class offense. Serious abuse. towards them is punished by 2 years imprisonment and a fine of € 30,000. “
Since filing their second complaint, Fame’s family have asked the neighborhood if they have any leads as to the shooter’s identity, but it appears no one is willing to report their neighbors. The case was even brought to the Mayor, but without action being taken, at least for the moment.
Let us never forget that animals are sentient beings!
Today, Eléonore shares the story of Fame with the community of Wamiz to express her incomprehension regarding the lack of involvement of the local authorities, as well as the terrible cruelty shown by one of the inhabitants of her village.
She would like this sad story to serve as a reminder of the terrible consequences of cruelty against animals, and that it wreaks havoc on animals and those who love them.
If she is very angry with the person who attacked Fame, she also feels sorry for this individual who does not know, according to her, the immense joy of having a pet filled with love.
Fame fights to live a cat life in the country for many years to come, playing with tall grass and enjoying nature. We hope that the executioner of Fame will be found, so that she can resume her walks safely!
