While observing birds at the RSPB reserve in Frampton Marshes in England, a man spotted a small animal dying in the middle of a herd of cows.

The staff of the Skegness Natureland Seal Sanctuary faced a rather unexpected situation in 2015. Ian Ellis was in the RSPB reserve in Frampton Marshes in England to watch the birds. But looking at the flora and fauna through his telescope, something caught his eye.

A herd of more than 30 cows was gathered around a small animal, which from a distance appeared to be a puppy. He lay buried in the swampy ground, while the cows watched him, wondering how to help the baby in distress.

How to save the animal?

Worried by this scene, the man called the shrine for directions. Given the gravity of the situation, the employees did not have time to get there and Ian Ellis had to act immediately to save the animal. Skegness Natureland Seal Sanctuary staff then guided the man on how to navigate the herd and retrieve the baby. He eventually managed to save him and take him to the shrine.

Only, when he saved him, he realized that it was not a puppy but a baby seal. Named Celebration, he was rushed to the sanctuary hospital in a dehydrated and lethargic state. It was a female, probably an orphan, who was only five days old.

The baby seal is better

Vets gave the baby seal hydrating fluids until his health could stabilize. He was also a victim of respiratory problems, for which he underwent antibiotic treatment.

Vets believe Celebration ended up in the swamps after being washed away by high tide. When she was rescued, she was still too young to be released. But luckily, she quickly got along well with the other animals in the sanctuary
