Having lost his home that morning, Williams was forced to drop off his most trusted companion to a shelter so he wouldn’t sleep rough. But the heartbreaking farewell between the master and his dog allowed a miracle to happen.

“We were young when we first met. Now we’re both old fellows. Be a good boy, lucky. I’ll come back and get you.” Here are the last poignant words of this master to his dog, Lucky who accompanied him for 14 years.

Forced to entrust his animal to the Gwinnett County Animal Welfare shelter  in Lawrenceville, Georgia, after being evicted from his accommodation that morning, it was with a heavy heart that Williams complied, thinking above all about the welfare of the animal and not wanting him to find himself, like him, sleeping in the street.

Although used to seeing owners come and abandon their animals, the shelter staff were moved by the special and sad situation that prompted this caring and loving man to leave his dog to them.

“We all had tears in our eyes as Mr. Williams took Lucky’s paperwork and handed it over to him,” said Katie Corbett, an employee of the shelter at The Dodo. So that a mobilization was put in place to save these two accomplices.

“The deputy director of the community services department was there that day and heard about the story (…) Almost immediately he was on the phone with the county main services department, trying to determine what resources they could offer, and what we could do to help, ”she explains.

That evening, Williams was able to move into a hotel room through the Department of Elderly Services and a few generous anonymous donors. As for Lucky, they managed to extricate him from this noisy shelter and place him in a temporary home by posting his story on Facebook. Very quickly became viral, the post allowed that the very next day, a man came to the kennel to welcome him at his home. For the moment, the old doggie seems happy to play with the other dogs in the house and have a good time while waiting to be able to be reunited with his dear master again.
