ABANDONED BY HIS MOTHER, THIS GIRAFFE HAS BECOME A DOG’S BEST FRIEND ON A RHINO FARM. THEY HAVE BECOME INSEPARABLE!

Clearly, animals have a lot to teach us about empathy and mutual aid! Sometimes the laws of nature can seem pretty harsh to us. This is what we say to ourselves when we hear the story of Jazz , a little giraffe  abandoned at birth  by its mother in the South African savannah. Two or three days later, the baby giraffe was found by a farmer who rushed to get help. “His mother abandoned him, and since it is difficult to survive without his mother at such a young age, we found the poor beast in a coma.” says Van Deventer , the manager of an orphanage. Very dehydrated and weak, he was taken care of by a rhino orphanage which did everything to help him get back on his feet.

The Rhinoceros Orphanage is an NGO in the Limpopo province of South Africa. She takes care of the rhinos in the region to fight against hunting and poaching which fuels the illegal horn trade. The volunteers were more used to caring for baby rhinos in distress, but rallied with the help of a vet to treat little Jazz . When he arrived at the shelter a 3 hour drive from Johannesburg, he was in a  comatose state  and had to be fed with an  IV . After  18 hours of treatment, Jazz began to wake up. He was 1m80 tall and was not easy to treat, but the volunteers gave everything to help him. While they were treating Jazz, their Berger Malinois  Hunter , in charge of keeping poachers away , was never far away. Very worried about the condition of this baby in distress, the doggie  refused to eat , preferring to monitor the situation closely.
